Localise app screens showing onboarding, the discovery feed and a recommendation

The problem

The high street needed more than another directory.

Independent shops already had products, stories and loyal customers. What they often lacked was a digital place where all of that could meet. Localise was designed around the idea that discovering what is nearby should feel more like opening a social app than searching through a list of businesses.

The challenge was bringing together local discovery, recommendations, content and offers without turning the experience into a wall of advertising. Shoppers needed a reason to browse. Businesses needed a useful way to be discovered. Both sides needed to feel part of the same local network.

Localise onboarding, account creation, community guidelines and discovery screens

Local discovery, recommendations and business content were designed to live inside one connected experience.

What I did

Three decisions shaped the product.

01

Started with people, not screens

Before designing the interface, I worked through the users the product needed to serve. Research and user personas helped separate the needs of shoppers, independent businesses and local creators, giving the product a clearer foundation before we started defining screens.

02

Made discovery feel social

Localise could easily have become another map or offers directory. Instead, the core experience was shaped around recommendations, content and nearby activity, giving people reasons to browse even when they were not searching for a specific shop.

03

Mapped it before polishing it

I worked directly with the CEO to turn the early concept into user flows and wireframes before moving into high-fidelity UI. The final Figma system covered the main product journeys, reusable interface patterns and designs the development team could take into build.

The finished product combined social content, local discovery and independent-business promotion without separating them into different experiences.
